What is
Microchipping?
Micro-chipping
is a simple and
effective way to
make sure that
your dog can be
easily
identified
should they get lost or
stolen. All
information is
set up on a
computerised
database system
for easy
traceability.
How does
Microchipping
Work?
A small
microchip,
(about the size
of a grain of
rice) is
inserted under
the loose skin
on the back of
your pet's neck.
This coded
inserted chip
remains a
permanent means
of
identification
for your pet and
stores your pets
personal ID
number which can
be read using a
scanner, which
in turn is
traced on the
database back to
its owner.
Canine Ireland Database
Canine Ireland hold their own data base for all pedigree pets etc that have been microchipped. The stored registered microchip number and your information is maintained in our data base. We also transfer all of our numbers onto a national data base called petnet.ie so in the event of your pet getting lost, stolen or straying we will do our best to reunite you with your pet.
At present Canine Ireland are hoping to be accepted on the Euro-petnet database. This is a group of national and local associations based across Europe and so our information regarding your microchip details will be easily obtained. We are constantly updating our data base to the veterinary assisociation of Ireland dog pounds, animal welfare etc.
In the event your dog goes missing please contact us with your pet’s microchip number so we can put the details up on our system. Also contact your local vets, Dog pounds, Gardai etc and tell as many people as you can to look out for the whereabouts of your pet. The more people that know about your missing pet the better chance you have of recovery.
Please also note there are also other data bases in Ireland that you can place your microchip details with.
The cost of placing your pet on our data base is 5.00. On receipt of payment you will get confirmation to let you know your pet is listed on our data base.
